Former Collingwood midfielder Arlo Draper has stepped away from football, with SANFL club South Adelaide confirming his exit following the 2024 season.

The Panthers have stated Draper will not return to the club due to a desire to explore opportunities outside of football, ending his one-season stint with the SANFL side.

Draper joined South Adelaide over 12 months ago following two seasons on Collingwood's list. The highly-rated midfield-forward hybrid was drafted to the Magpies out of the Panthers' system as a promising teenager.

He would not play an AFL game for Collingwood and faced injury setbacks during his time in Victoria, eventually returning to his home state after being delisted.

Draper featured in 11 games for South Adelaide this year, playing six games with younger brother Sid while averaging 10.5 disposals, 4.2 tackles and 1.9 clearances per game. A concussion in May kept him on the sidelines for over a month.

South Adelaide confirmed Draper's exit on Tuesday along with fellow Panther Hayden Sampson.

"Arlo, after transitioning from an AFL list, faced some challenges this year but greatly appreciated the support the club provided, including the chance to play alongside his brother, Sid," South Adelaide coach Jarrad Wright said in a club statement.

"He now feels it's the right time to take a step back from football. We respect his decision and wish him well."

South Adelaide won four games in 2024 to finish ninth on the SANFL ladder.
