Former Melbourne-listed defender Deakyn Smith has joined a new club for 2025 after spending the 2024 season with North Melbourne's VFL team.

Training with the Kangaroos' AFL squad last pre-season, Smith spent three seasons with the Melbourne Demons after joining the club as a Supplemental Selection Period addition in 2021.

Although he never managed to make his AFL debut, Smith was a consistent performer in the VFL for Casey and appeared in 44 matches for the side, including two finals matches in 2023.

After spending 2024 playing for North Melbourne's VFL team, Smith has signed on with Thomastown for the 2025 season in the Northern Football Netball League competition.

Smith, who has mainly played at halfback over the past few seasons, will also return to the Casey Demons for the 2025 season.

Initially joining the Demons as a graduate of the club's Next Generation Academy, Smith has an impressive resume that includes winning the Casey Demons VFL Best and Fairest in 2023.
