New Fremantle recruit Patrick Voss has spoken on earning an AFL lifeline with the Dockers, with the former Essendon forward stating he's been made to feel "really comfortable" in purple.
Voss linked up with the Dockers in late November as a Supplemental Selection Period train-on talent, venturing west just a month after not being offered a new deal by the Bombers.
The GWS Giants Academy product was one of four SSP trial players who have trained under Justin Longmuir this summer, with the Dockers deciding to fill one of their two vacant list spots on Thursday with the signing of Voss.
The big-bodied key forward said it's "awesome to get another opportunity" at the top level as he plans to improve on the qualities that earned him a second chance.
"Yeah it's pretty exciting. I'm away from family and friends at the moment but there's been plenty of phone calls and text messages," Voss told club media.
"Everyone back home, all my mates they're pretty excited for me.
"... It's awesome to get another opportunity. It's been really clear from the coaching staff what my focus points will be throughout the year.
"A bit of aerial craft, a bit of game sense, which I think has come a long way and that I'll continue to build on."
Voss claimed best and fairest honours with Essendon's VFL side last year following a 30-goal season at the state league level.
While no AFL debut would arise across his two seasons in the red and black, Voss' impressive and consist pre-season stint with the Dockers now has him in line for a shot at senior action in 2024.
"I think it's off the back of a bit of consistency throughout the pre-season," Voss said of his form.
"I feel like I've had a pretty solid pre-season, it's translated on-field so far, which I'm looking to continue throughout the year.
"Matt Taberner, Luke Jackson, Sonny (Michael Walters), those senior boys have helped me a lot.
"They've made me feel really comfortable in this environment. They've been awesome."
Voss is likely to feature in Fremantle's opening practice match session next weekend against West Coast, with a Community Series clash with Port Adelaide scheduled for the week after.
The Dockers will open their 2024 campaign against Brisbane at Optus Stadium on Sunday, March 17.
