Former Fremantle Dockers midfielder Mitch Crowden has elected to head back to South Australia and play for his junior club Sturt in the SANFL.

Crowden was delisted by the Dockers at the end of the 2022 season after struggling to find consistency since being drafted in 2017, playing 42 games at AFL level.

Making the jump down to the WAFL in 2023 is where Crowden showed how impressive he can be, winning two best and fairest awards for East Perth and falling just short in this season's grand final.

Crowden, 25, finished third by just one vote in 2024's Sandover Medal count and came in equal fourth the year before, and Sturt hoping he can carry over that form for the 2025 season.

"We're thrilled to announce that former Sturt junior Mitch Crowden has signed on for the 2025 season," the club said.

"Over the past two years, he has impressed at WAFL Club East Perth, and now he's coming home."

Sturt fell to Glenelg in the first semi-final after finishing second on the ladder in 2024.
