Former Geelong prospect Joe Furphy has signed with Coburg Lions in the VFL for the 2025 after being delisted from the AFL club.
Furphy joined the Cats late in 2023 as a Category B Rookie after initially pursuing a career in professional basketball.
The 25-year-old was a highly-touted footballer before deciding to go down a different sporting path but has now returned and will continue his playing days at the Lions.
What a start to 2025, Welcome Joe Furphy!
Standing tall at 202cm, Joe joins us as a powerful ruckman after spending 2024 as a Category B rookie at Geelong. With his height, athleticism, and ability to compete in the air and around the ground, Joe will be a huge asset. pic.twitter.com/q3UxQIoCxi

Furphy played for the Northern Knights during his draft year, showcasing his tremendous athleticism and skillset for a player standing at 203cm.
Furphy didn't debut in the AFL during his time at Kardinia Park.
The former Cat joins former AFL-listed players Matt Allison (St Kilda) and Jack Bytel (Collingwood) at the Lions for the 2025 season.
Coburg finished 18th in 2024 after securing five wins.
They remain one of seven clubs in the reserves competition that is not affiliated with an AFL club.
