Earlier in the week, Eddie Betts revealed that the controversial 2018 Adelaide Crows training camp "was a part" of why he left the club in favour of a return to Carlton at the end of last year.
The Crows playing group underwent a daunting and tolling pre-season camp on the Gold Coast after their Grand Final defeat to Richmond the year prior.
The infamous camp was seen to be too invasive on certain levels of the players physical and mental strengths, with the club soon facing criticism and missing finals for the next two seasons.
The club has since appointed Matthew Nicks as their new boss following the resignation of former coach Don Pyke.
โThereโs a lot of things that went on and a lot of unhappy players,โ Betts told SEN on Tuesday.
โIt was a part of it, not a full part of it.
โEventually my family and I were going to move back to Melbourne anyway.
โWhen the opportunity come up to come back and play for Carlton, I took it.
โI believe it was the right time in my career and where I am at the moment to move back.โ
And South Australian great Andrew Jarman has whacked Betts for his comments, stating that the three-time All Australian would be playing SANFL this year if it weren't for good friend David Teague being the Carlton coach.
โWhy canโt Eddie Betts just let it go? Heโs come out and heโs blamed the camp for one of the reasons why he left the Adelaide Crows,โ Jarman said on Adelaide radio station Triple M.
โ(The reason why he left is) his best footy was past him. It all started when he got dropped to play Glenelg last year; thatโs where it all started.
โIโm disappointed. Iโve loved the way Eddieโs played his football and what heโs done for the footy club. Donโt go sooking because your best footy is past you. His last two years have been on the decline.
โDonโt blame the camp. Some of the intel Iโve received about the camp, he was probably one of one a few players who engaged and loved the camp โ he actually really enjoyed those four days. Itโs two years ago, please let it go.
โItโs only because your best mates the senior coach of the Carlton Footy Club that youโve got another opportunity. Otherwise, heโd be playing SANFL this year with one year left to go on his contract.
