Three-time premiership Hawk Liam Shiels' move from Waverley to Arden Street has been made official, with the AFL ratifying the veteran's paperwork on Monday evening.

Shiels, 31, spent 14 happy seasons with Hawthorn, tasting September success on a regular basis across the course of his 255 games in brown and gold.

Yet, with former teammate and current head coach Sam Mitchell sweeping his locker room clean ahead of summer, Shiels was forced to seek opportunities away from Bungil Bagora, after announcing his retirement in August.

Having spent all bar one season of his career under the leadership of Alastair Clarkson, the veteran midfielder-cum-forward will again get to work under the mastermind following North Melbourne's choice to offer him a lifeline during the Supplementary Selection Period (SSP).

Shiels was welcomed onto the Roos' roster after recent draftee Brayden George was shifted onto the inactive list as he rehabs an ACL injury sustained during his recent NAB League campaign with the Murray Bushrangers.

A quiet achiever among Hawthorn's galaxy of stars during their golden generation, Shiels holds career averages of 19.7 disposals, 5.6 tackles and 3.5 inside 50s per game.

Shiels managed 13 outings during his farewell season as a Hawk, proving a handful during the club's Round 12 fixture against Collingwood, with the veteran finding the footy on 22 occasions and laying 7 tackles in the process.
