Recently departed Hawthorn veteran Liam Shiels is said to reunite with former coach Alastair Clarkson at North Melbourne.
Shiels, who left the Hawks this year after 255 games in 14 seasons, has been linked to a potential AFL return since leaving Waverley following a successful stint in the brown and gold.
The Roos have been seen as a potential landing spot for Shiels in recent months following Clarkson's signing at Arden Street, with Shiels a key feature in the champion coach's successes with Hawthorn.
According to AFL Media's Cal Twomey, Shiels is expected to join the Kangaroos through the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period.
Shiels opted not to nominate for next week's National Draft, instead being made available for the SSP, which will open next year.
Shiels adds much needed experience at the struggling Roos, who cut ties with senior players Jed Anderson, Kayne Turner and Jared Polec this year.
The 31-year-old played in Hawthorn's historic three-peat under Clarkson between 2013-2015 after joining the club the same year they won their previous premiership in 2008.
