Is it time for Collingwood to hand its captaincy reigns over to someone else?
Former Pies recruiter Matt Rendell believes Darcy Moore should replace Scott Pendlebury in the role in 2021.
The club legend has been skipper since 2014 and last season broke the Collingwood VFL/AFL games played record as well as most games as captain.
However, Moore is coming off a breakout 2020 campaign, receiving his first All Australian jumper to become one of the elite defenders of the competition.
The 24-year old just signed a two-year extension with the Magpies, tying him to the club until the end of 2022.
Speaking on SENâs Dwayneâs World, Rendell says the time is now to install Moore as skipper.
âHe should be (Collingwoodâs next captain). I would even do it next year,â Rendell said.
âPendlebury has been there a long while and heâs not going to be any different if heâs captain or not captain.
âBut why wouldnât you get Darcy in at 24, heâs just signed a two-year contract, heâs going to come out (of contract) in free agency.
âWhy wouldnât you hand (the captaincy) over. Heâs a smart kid, heâs running the backline, he can play ruck, he can play forward.
âIâd be throwing him the keys and saying âPendles youâve been fantastic for us, but letâs get the new bunch of kids inâ.
The club is coming off a tumultuous off-season - with Adam Treloar, Jaidyn Stephenson, Tom Phillips and Atu Bosenavulagi all getting moved to clear salary cap pressure.
Earlier this week Collingwood announced that Marcus Wagner and Nick Maxwell will replace outgoing GM of Football Geoff Walsh on an interim basis following his retirement last week.
