If the 25-year-old is to join his brother at Moore Park, it will have to be via an alternative route.

Former St Kilda forward Paddy McCartin has opted against nominating for November's National Draft.

Word of the 25-year-old's decision to remove himself from contention for the two-night event was announced on Wednesday via a tweet from AFL Media reporter Callum Twomey.

As stated by Twomey, the ex-Saint could still make his way to the Swans to play alongside younger brother Tom should he be picked up in the pre-season supplemental period (SPP).

Following repeated head knocks and related issues with concussion, the pick 1 from the 2014 draft was delisted by the Linton Street side.

McCartin then spent the entirety of the 2020 season on the sidelines recovering before linking up with Sydney's VFL team this year.

News of McCartin's decision to return to AFL level first surfaced earlier this month, with Nine News suggesting that the Geelong Falcons product would find his way onto the Swan's senior list.

While the 35-game Saint will have to wait until next season until his position at Moore Park is confirmed, McCartin will still be afforded the ability to undertake pre-season training with John Longmire's squad.
