Former Port Adelaide defender Martin Frederick has returned to SANFL club Sturt for the 2025 season following a year with Claremont.

Frederick moved to the WAFL 12 months ago to link up with the Tigers after a year with Sturt, who he joined following his Power departure.

The 24-year-old played 19 games for Claremont this year, averaging 16 disposals and three marks per game as the Tigers managed a top five finish.

Across four seasons at Port Adelaide, Frederick played 14 games - all of which came between the 2021-22 seasons after making his debut against St Kilda. Frederick collected 23 disposals in his maiden appearances at AFL level, which would end up being a career-high haul.

The South Australian has now returned to his home state for next year, linking up with Sturt a year on from leaving the Double Blues.

Sturt confirmed Frederick's return on Wednesday night in what is an exciting return for the Woodville-West Torrens product.

"We are excited to announce that former fan favourite Manguru "Marty" Frederick is coming back to Sturt for the 2025 season," a club post read.

"After a season in the WAFL, Marty has decided to return to South Australia, and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome him back into the Double Blue family.

"Marty was a standout in 2023, winning the hearts of supporters with his speed and skill. We can't wait to see him again in Season 2025."

The signing of Frederick follows Sturt's recent acquisition of ex-Fremantle midfield-forward Mitch Crowden, who has also returned to the club following a career with the Dockers and a stellar period in the WAFL with East Perth.

Crowden finished third in this year's Sandover Medal count after a fourth-placed finish the year prior, with the Royals reaching the grand final in 2024.
