Former Richmond midfielder Will Martyn has joined VFL club Port Melbourne for the 2025 season, linking up with the Borough two years after initially intending to play for the standalone club.

Martyn signed with Port Melbourne ahead of the 2023 season but instead returned to Queensland, playing in the QAFL for Wilston Grange before signing with Brisbane's VFL program a year later.

The Borough's hopes of acquiring the ex-Tiger have succeeded this time around, with Martyn unveiled as the club's latest signing on Thursday.

Martyn played three AFL games in as many seasons for Richmond before departing the club at the end of 2022, with one of those appearances coming as an unused sub.

"The Borough is excited to announce Will Martyn has signed on for 2025," a Port Melbourne post read.

"Will brings a wealth of experience having played three matches at AFL Level with Richmond and over 40 games at VFL level for Richmond and more recently Brisbane Lions.

"A hard at it midfielder with ability to break out of stoppage and great ball use. Welcome to the Borough Will."

The signing of Martyn adds to an exciting off-season so far for Port Melburne, who have announced the acquisitions of Dyson Heppell, Tex Wanganeen, James Van Es and Robbie McComb for the 2025 season.

The quintet of AFL-experienced recruits land at North Port Oval ahead of the club's new era under recently appointed coach Brendan McCartney, who has joined the club after a part-time stint with Collingwood.

The Borough have also acquired Essendon great James Hird as their new director of coaching.

Port Melbourne recorded just six wins in 2024 to finish 16th on the VFL ladder.
