Former Gold Coast midfielder Darcy Macpherson has returned to his junior club Diamond Creek in the Northern Football Netball League.
Macpherson was delisted from the Suns at the end of the 2024 season after nine years and 97 games, kicking 29 goals after being taken as a rookie ahead of 2016.
However, it seemed his AFL dream mightn't have been over when North Melbourne's VFL outfit signed the 27-year-old, who has been training with the club ahead of the upcoming campaign, featuring in the intra-club match last weekend.
But as any player who is VFL listed, Macpherson is able to sign with a local football club, which is where Diamond Creek comes in.
"The Diamond Creek Football Netball Club is excited to announce Darcy Macpherson as our latest recruit in 2025," a statement read.
"Darcy started his football journey with the Diamond Creek Football Netball Club as an under-9 in 2005 and played his entire junior career with the junior club, captaining our under-17 side who were premiers that year.
"Darcy was drafted by Gold Coast Suns in 2016 and made his debut in the same year. (He) came 3rd in Gold Coast's Best and Fairest in 2019 and played 96 games for the club.
"We can't wait to see Darcy's return to Coventry Oval this year with his leadership, experience and skill enhancing our efforts to go one step further in 2025."
Diamond Creek has been on the back end of two consecutive losing grand finals.
South Morang defeated Diamond Creek by six points in last year's decider, as did Eltham in 2023 by 41 points.
It is understood that Macpherson will reunite with his younger brother, Ewan, at their junior club as well as the Roos.
