Former Swan Marc Sheather has made the move across town, joining GWS' VFL program for the 2024 season.
Joining Sydney as a Catagory B Rookie during the 2021 Rookie Draft, the native New South Welshman would feature at AFL level on three occasions in 2023, ironically debuting against the Giants during Round 7.
However, after injuries curbed him during his three seasons at Moore Park, Sheather was delisted at the cessation of last year.
Although no longer on an AFL list, Sheather was both thankful for the support the Swans had shown him, while also remaining excited about what the future held on the orange side of the Harbour City.
“I was lucky enough to be with the Swans for three years….and I was really grateful for that, but I'm really looking forward to coming and playing for the Giants,” Sheather told Giants Media.
“It's a new environment and a new opportunity and to stay local is really positive for me.”
“[We are shaping up] really good actually
“The boys are crackers, and we've got a good development squad here.
“And the coaches are great, I've got a good relationship with Jeremy Laidler, and ‘Crippa' [VFL head coach Wayne Cripps], so it looks like it's going to be a fun year.
“I like to think I'm a hardnut sort of footy player and in and under and hopefully I can add a bit of that to my footy this year and hopefully the Giants go well.”
The Giants finished the 2023 VFL season in 12th position, missing finals with a 9-9 record.
Sheather, himself, has made an impact at the level, averaging 12.2 disposals in his 21 VFL appearances, with 11 career goals to boot.
GWS will commence their 2024 season on the weekend of March 23-24, with the finer details of the competition fixture yet to be released.
