In an exciting development for the Sorrento Football Netball Club, former Sydney Swans midfielder Ryan Clarke has signed with the local club for the upcoming 2025 season in the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League (MPFNL).

This move reunites him with his younger brother, Dylan Clarke, who was named Sorrento's Best and Fairest winner this year.

Ryan Clarke, 27, enjoyed a solid AFL career, playing 40 games for North Melbourne and 57 for Sydney. During his time with the Swans, Clarke was a crucial piece in the team's journey to the 2022 Grand Final. Lauded for his ability to tag opposition players effectively, notably Magpie maestro Nick Daicos, Clarke's defensive efforts were instrumental in key matches leading up to the Grand Final, where the club were unfortunately trounced by Geelong.

His experience and skill should bolster the Sharks' midfield, providing a dynamic partnership alongside Dylan.

Coach James Hallahan expressed his enthusiasm for the pairing, telling Herald Sun'sย Simon McEvoy, โ€œRyan is a bit more explosiveโ€ฆ they will complement each other well.โ€

The Clarke brothers have a storied history together, having played alongside each other in their youth. With their AFL careers taking them to different clubs, their reunion at Sorrento promises to bring back the camaraderie that characterised their early football days.

Hallahan added that their parents are particularly thrilled, as they have spent years travelling across the country to support their sons.

โ€œTo have them both at the one club is exciting for the family,โ€ he remarked.

As Sorrento prepares for the 2025 season, Hallahan noted the team's ongoing recruitment efforts.

โ€œWe are waiting for answers from a couple more,โ€ he mentioned, hinting at the possibility of further signings to strengthen the squad.

The Sharks are looking forward to a promising season, and the return of the Clarke brothers to the same midfield should do wonders in their hopes for success.
