Former top-ten draft pick Nathan Freeman has been invited to train with Gold Coast during the summer.
Freeman was originally drafted by Collingwood with pick No.10 in 2013, but consistent hamstring issues meant the promising Sandringham Dragons product was unable to pull on the black and white.
He was traded to St Kilda where he managed to play two games in 2018 before he was delisted.
Freeman will be hoping to be selected in the pre-season supplemental selection period with the Suns desperate to fill the void left by the departing Hugh Greenwood.
AFL.com.au reporter Cal Twomey is reporting that Gold Coast has held a spot on its list with an eye to adding some talent post the draft.
They added former Cat Charlie Constable on draft night and Freeman would be another ready-made midfielder to join the mix.
The 26-year-old had a fantastic start to the VFL season with Frankston where he averaged just over 38 disposals in eight games before a Victorian lockdown ended the season prematurely.
Speaking on AFL Trade Radio recently, Freeman said that he believes his body is now able to stand up to the rigours of AFL footy.
"I'm only 26, so I still harbour those ambitions," Freeman admitted.
"I'd go all-in on that, if it was to happen. I see what I can still do, even coming on in leaps and bounds from my 2019 year in the VFL.
"The main thing was my body and my durability, that's what tipped me out of the AFL system in the first place," he told AFL Trade Radio.
"I've put a body of work together in the last 12 or 24 months where I've been injury-free and I'm really confident in my body.
"I wouldn't be putting myself out there or putting myself in a situation to hopefully get taken again if I didn't think that I'd be a really valuable asset to any club."
