Sydney’s Head of Football Charlie Gardiner has said that Lance Franklin is not expected to return to training until February.

Franklin had surgery on his groin at the end of the season after injuring it against GWS in round 22.

“He had some surgery in the off-season to address a groin issue he got late in the season in that GWS game," Gardiner told SEN's Sporting Capital.

“We expect he’ll be back in training probably February at this stage with a view to having him ready for the start of the season.”

Franklin has been dogged by injuries in the past couple of years but has always found a way to play through it on game day, missing only four games last season.
