Fremantle has no regrets after giving Nat Fyfe a contract extension despite the champion's continued struggle with injuries in recent times.
Fyfe is currently sidelined with a recurring foot injury that could see him miss out on the remainder of the 2023 season.
The 31-year-old signed on with the Dockers in June, adding two more years to his contract, which now set to expire in 2025.
The two-time Brownlow medallist has only managed to play just 16 games since Round 19 2021, but Fremantle are backing their decision to extend Fyfe's time as a Docker, with CEO Simon Garlick expressing his confidence that Fyfe still has a large role to play in purple.
“We're really confident (he's got more footy left in him),” he told SEN WA Mornings.
“The foot problem is a really disappointing one but it's an isolated scenario.
“Nat's most significant injury challenge is over the period before that… (it was) really (representative) of how hard a player he'd been.
Garlick also stated that Fyfe's role expands further than just a player but also a role model for the younger players that have ultimately stepped up in Fyfe's absence.
“You know how much of a professional he is. His experience and professionalism around our young group is going to be invaluable," Garlick added.
“The deal that Nat signed is very advantageous to us as a club, he's a warrior and I'm certainly very confident the final chapter in Nat's incredible Fremantle journey is yet to be written.”
Fyfe has played nine games so far in 2023, kicking three goals and averaging 13.9 disposals.
