Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has declared some players as "unlucky" as a host of stars set themselves to return.

Hayden Young and Sean Darcy will play at some level of football this weekend but could be in the mix for an AFL recall, pending their ability to get through Thursday's training.

Veteran Nat Fyfe could also come into consideration after being held back last week following some knee soreness, while small forward Sam Switkowski is expected to face Richmond on Sunday.

The potential inclusion of Darcy - who has had a wretched run of injuries in the past 18 months - comes as fellow ruckman Luke Jackson has gone down with a hamstring injury and will miss at least the next two weeks.

"We want him to do some work today," Longmuir said.

"And then we'll have a chat after training. That will probably be the response for a few of the guys.

"I know there's interest around guys returning and how many we can fit in the team, but we need to get through training first.

Dockers double-blow as star duo ruled out for season

"He won't be as match fit as he will be in three, four, five games time, but we've got to start somewhere.

"The concern is looking after Sean long term."

The same goes for Young, who is also making the trip to South Australia for Gather Round. Longmuir is tossing up whether another week in the WAFL would benefit the Docker.

"The decision is how many can we bring back at once?" Longmuir quizzed.

Longmuire also confirmed that Fyfe will be available for selection, while Switkowski has seemingly overcome his groin issue.

The return of the Fremantle small forward could mean that either Isaiah Dudley or Murphy Reid might be stiff to miss out.

"I think Switta is one of the best small forwards in the comp," Longmuir said.

"He plays a massive role in our team. He'll come back in if he's declared fit.

Speaking on Dudley, the Dockers coach said: "He doesn't deserve to be out of the team. Sometimes, that happens, but we haven't spoken yet as a match committee."

The Round 5 teams will drop at 6.20pm (AEST) on Thursday, with Sunday's final 23 confirmed on Friday afternoon.
