The manager of Fremantle veteran Nat Fyfe has looked to pour cold water on rumours the two-time Brownlow Medal winner is open to departing the Dockers at the end of this year in pursuit of a potential premiership.
Fyfe is eligible as an unrestricted free agent in 2023, with his lucrative six-year deal signed in 2017 now coming to an end in line with the conclusion of his 14th season in purple.
The former Fremantle captain was murmured to have recommitted to the Dockers prior to the start of the 2023 season, only for his agent Jason Dover to deny reports a two-year deal was signed.
Dover had confirmed contract talks between Fremantle and Fyfe would likely take place during the season, with the latter looking to focus on his football after an injury-riddled past few seasons.
Ailments have again kept the 31-year-old sidelined, with Fyfe not featuring in Justin Longmuir's side since the Dockers' season opener against St Kilda due to a foot injury.
While Fyfe remains on the mend as Fremantle look to get their season back on track, reports this week suggested the champion Docker is considering a future away from Cockburn, potentially assessing options with rival clubs that will contend for premierships in the coming years.
St Kilda have been noted as a potential destination for the midfielder-turned-forward, with former mentor Ross Lyon steering the Saints to an undefeated start to this season.
However, following suggestions Fyfe's premiership plans might be beyond Fremantle, Dover has looked to quash any rumour of the sort.
According to AFL.com.au, Dover has confirmed his client remains solely focused on discussing his future with Fremantle, with talks between all parties seen to be positive.
Fyfe is one of four free agents the Dockers have listed in 2023, with sharpshooter Lachie Schultz, veteran Michael Walters and defender Joel Hamling all eligible for free agency.
Fyfe's plantar fascia injury will continue to place the 210-game Docker on the sidelines for the coming weeks, with the veteran building into a running program.
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir revealed this week the club great could return to action through the WAFL, a manoeuvre the club used last year as Fyfe looked to return from a back issue.
The Dockers will be hoping to secure their second win of the season this week when they face the Gold Coast Suns in South Australia for Gather Round.
