Fremantle are moving to secure young forward Josh Treacyย on a multi-year deal after securing Sam Switkowski until the end of 2026 earlier this week.
Treacy was taken at Pick No.7 in the 2021 AFL Rookie Draft, playing 15 games in his debut year, including every game for Fremantle between Rounds 10 to 23.
Treacy's 2022 season was interrupted by injury and glandular fever, and the preference of Jye Amiss as a key forward also stunted his chances at AFL level. However, this season has seen Treacy play six games for Fremantle, kicking eight goals for the year.
Treacy has also found himself in Mark of the Year contention this season, after taking a screamer during Fremantle's win over the Sydney Swans in Round 9.
Treacy was dropped following Fremantle's loss to St Kilda in Round 1, however, was recalled in Round 8 following some strong form in the WAFL.
Speaking toย fremantlefc.com.au, Treacy said that going back to the WAFL helped him regain confidence in his game.
"Before I came back into the AFL, the most fun I've had playing footy were my few games at Peel," Treacy said.
"Not that I lost my love for the game, but just found an extra pep in my step."
"Then having the confidence of the Club backing me in again, it was really good."
The emerging forward is now said to be in line for a new deal with the Dockers, according toย AFL.com,ย with Treacy potentially seeing his services tied to the purple side for at least two more seasons.
The Dockers added a further two years to Switkowski's deal earlier this week, while veterans Nat Fyfe and Michael Walter penned multi-year extensions last week.
Small forward Lachie Schultz also reached a trigger for a further 12 months midway through the current season.
Fremantle will travel to Sydney this weekend to play GWS at Giants Stadium on Saturday at 4:35pm (AEST).
