The Carlton Blues have a fight on their hands to retain utility Sam Petrevski-Seton.

The Herland Sun are reporting that the Fremantle Dockers are very keen on bringing the Western Australian-born 23-year-old home.

The reports suggest Carlton may be keen on Fremantle midfielder Adam Cerra in an apparent swap between the two, with Carlton meeting with the 21-year-old this week.

Petrevski-Seton has more than 80 AFL games under his belt, however, was dumped to the VFL for a period of this season, with the Blues floundering in the bottom half of the ladder.

The utility has played at all parts of the ground this season for Carlton, but is struggling to make anything permanent in David Teague's team.

It may make sense for Petrevski-Seton to head home for a fresh start, given the circumstances. He played WAFL at Claremont, debuting as a 17-year-old before being taken as pick number six in the 2016 draft.

The gifted youngster as represented Western Australia at junior level, however, some experts are of the view he doesn't have the tools to make his game elite.

The Blues are reportedly on the verge of locking up Sam Walsh, while they have already done so with Patrick Cripps and Harry McKay, as they look to build their team for 2022 and beyond.

With the nucleus of the team either confirmed to long-term deals, or about to be, the Blues may look elsewhere to turn their future around, with the club also reportedly linked to Patrick Lipinski.
