Fremantle’s Michael Walters named as Indigenous All-Stars captain

Fremantle veteran Michael Walters will have the unusual task of captaining against his own side when the Indigenous All-Stars face the Dockers at Optus Stadium on February 15.

Walters won't be the first player to lead the collective of the game's stars against the club he plays for, with Adelaide superstar Andrew McLeod receiving the honour in the 2009 clash when the Crows featured.

The Dockers forward will be supported by experienced All-Stars teammates Charlie Cameron (Brisbane), Bradley Hill (St Kilda) and Jarman Impey (Hawthorn) in the leadership group.

Hill and Impey are the only two players from the most recent Indigenous All-Stars team, which beat West Coast in 2015, to return for the 2025 clash.

Walters is heading into his 17th AFL season and is among the game's most respected leaders, having played 239 games for Fremantle and kicked 365 goals.

However, despite his standing in the game, he has yet to participate in one of these games, notably due to a hamstring injury in the lead-up to the 2015 clash.
