Brisbane have re-signed former captain Dayne Zorko for the 2024 season.
Zorko's future with the Lions was confirmed by the club on Wednesday, with the 34-year-old yet extending his tenure in Queensland beyond a 12th season.
2024 will be Zorko's 13th campaign for the Queensland club, having joined the Lions as a mature-aged recruit in 2011 after being signed by the Suns as a zone selection before being immediately traded to Brisbane.
โI am really happy to be going around again with a group that has so much potential and that is on the cusp of achieving something special,โ Zorko said in a club statement.ย
โI feel like I am still contributing to the team in terms of my on-field performances, and I believe I have plenty to offer this group off the field through leadership and my experience.ย
โAfter having a taste of playing in the Grand Final it has spurred me on to go again and I can't wait to get back to work this preseason and prepare for an exciting 2024.โย
Zorko's arrival in the AFL would come after he was overlooked at several National Drafts, with the local talent eventually making his debut in 2012 and playing out 16 games in his maiden campaign.
The midfielder has gone on to win five Brisbane best and fairests during his time with the club and has also claimed an All-Australian selection and two club leading goalkicker awards across his 250 games as a Lion.
Zorko was appointed captain of the club for the 2018 season and would hold the role until Lachie Neale and Harris Andrews shared the captaincy duties this year.
