Richmond's VFL program has signed former Carlton midfielder Sam Philp for the 2026 season.

Philp lands at Punt Road after a year with Port Melbourne and Northern Football Netball League outfit Old Paradians.

The 24-year-old featured in six games with the latter in his first year since crossing from fellow NFNL side Bundoora, while Philp has tallied 11 games for the Borough since leaving the Blues at the cessation of the 2023 season.

Philp was recruited to Carlton as a first-round selection in the 2019 AFL Draft and would make his debut in his maiden season against Essendon.

An appearance against St Kilda the following week would be his final match in the top flight, with both injury and form limiting Philp's exposure at AFL level.

That combination saw the Northern Knights product play just two VFL games in 2023, with a foot injury derailing his campaign before the start of the season.

Having since plied his trade across multiple levels, Philp has made the move across to Richmond's side for the 2026 VFL season.

The acquisition of the ex-Blue adds to a strong recruitment drive at the Tigers, who have secured ex-Saints pair Leo Connolly and Ollie Hotton, as well as Northern Bullants small forward Chris Scerri.

Scerri's time with the Tigers could be short-lived, however, with the young livewire currently training for a list spot at Fremantle over the pre-season.

Top line talent Harry Scott, Sam Toner, Nick Collier, Joel Garner, Lachlan Street and Mutaz El Nour are among the Tigers to have also committed to the club for 2026, with Jack Madgen taking the coaching reins from Jake Batchelor.
