Geelong big man Nathan Vardy will miss the next six weeks after suffering a foot ligament sprain during last weekend's VFL practice match.

The 24-year-old, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, injured his foot when an opponents' knee landed on him during a marking contest.

โ€œThis was just an unlucky incident during the game,โ€ Geelong general manager of football Steve Hocking said.

โ€œThe good news is that there is no surgery required and we expect this injury to heal over the next month. Nathan will be in a boot for a couple of weeks as he continues to heal from this injury.โ€

Vardy has managed just 24 senior games for Geelong since making his debut in Round 9, 2011.
