Geelong is looking to finalise it’s list ahead of the draft, working on new contracts for five player, including Quinton Narkle and Sam Simpson, per Mitch Cleary.
Narkle was tossed up as bargaining bait during the trade period, particularly in the talks that eventually landed Jeremy Cameron from GWS.
The Cats have opened talks with the 22-year old over a one-year deal that will see him tied to the club until the end of 2021.
Narkle has played 17 games for Geelong across three seasons, including just five games in 2020 following a hamstring injury in round six preventing him from winning a spot back in the side.
Simpson has had a bit of a breakthrough 2020 campaign, playing nine games after just the one in 2018 and not playing any games in 2019.
His form for the Cats this year has seen Geelong offer a two-year deal, an offer that Simpson is close to signing.
The 22-year old came back from a hamstring injury in time for the Cats’ semi-final win over Collingwood and went on to play in both the preliminary final and the grand final.
Lachie Henderson, Brad Close and Darcy Fort are also nearing new contracts to remain at Kardinia Park.
This news comes after Jack Steven announced his retirement from the game, with a year still to run on his current contract.
