Former Geelong forward Cameron Mooney believes that Joe Daniher will not put on the red and black jumper this season.

Daniher requested a trade to Sydney in the off-season, but that move was blocked by Essendon as they wanted a player in return for the deal in which Sydney declined.ย

It meant Daniher had to honour his current contract which expires at the end of the year, meaning he will be a restricted free agent.

If Daniher does eventually departs the Bombers via free agency, they would receive a second-round compensation pick. And Mooney believes that Essendon missed an opportunity to get something bigger in return.ย

He also believes that Daniher to Sydney could be on the cards again this year during the offseason period.ย

โ€œI think Essendon made a big mistake not getting two first-round draft picks for him last year," he told Foxfooty.com.au

โ€œThe hard thing is when a player is asked if heโ€™d like to be traded if thereโ€™s โ€˜something thereโ€™, heโ€™ll say โ€˜Iโ€™d prefer to stay but if thereโ€™s something there Iโ€™ll goโ€™. But nothing happens and then he stays and heโ€™s happy to stay. But when a player wants out, you canโ€™t convince them in 12 months that they need to stay.

โ€œ(Daniher) wanted out and I reckon he wants out again. They made a mistake there I think.

โ€œIโ€™d be staggered if he plays (in 2020). I just donโ€™t think he wants to play for them anymore.

โ€œIn my time in footy, Iโ€™ve never seen a player that wants out then turn around in 12 monthsโ€™ time and say โ€˜actually I do love the placeโ€™. He wanted out, they shouldโ€™ve let him go, they shouldโ€™ve got what they wanted for him.

โ€œNow I think itโ€™ll be a lose-lose and Sydney should get him.โ€
