Greater Western Sydney AFLW forward Haneen Zreika will not take part in this weekend's action for religious reasons, with the league's first Muslim player opting not to feature in her club's Pride jumper.

According to The Age's Peter Ryan, the 22-year-old won't be named for the Giants' clash against the Western Bulldogs on Friday night after being unable to wear the jumper, which celebrates, supports and welcomes those in the LGBTQI+ community.

It is understood that Zreika has spoken with the club and teammates, who are understanding of the forward's decision not to represent the club this week, a call that Zreika has been weighing up for some time.

The AFLW's annual Pride Round took place in Round 3, with Zreika featuring in her side's match against North Melbourne, however the Giants were not able to wear their Pride jumper until this week.

The club are yet to comment on the decision, with Greater Western Sydney set to submit their Round 4 lineup at 5pm AEDT on Thursday.

Zreika has played 24 games for the Giants since debuting in Round 1, 2019, where she became the first Muslim player to feature in the AFLW.

The Giants will host the Bulldogs at Henson Park at 5:10pm AEDT on Friday night as they eye their second win of the season.
