GWS will be without recruit Jake Stringer for the club's upcoming Community Series clash against Carlton as he battles illness.

Stringer came across from Essendon and has impressed his third AFL side, adding a point of difference in the star-studded forward line.

The former Bomber won't be seen in Giants colours but is expected to be ready for Opening Round .

Joining him on the sidelines will be youngster Logan Smith (illness) as well as emerging forward Phoenix Gothard, who hurt his ankle in last week's match simulation against Sydney.

In more positive news, veteran midfielder Stephen Coniglio will line up against the Blues at Manuka Oval on Friday.

Coniglio has been on a limited program following two off-season surgeries which also plagued his 2024 campaign.

The 31-year-old has returned to full training in recent weeks and has been given the green light.

The Giants are hopeful that All-Australian defender Sam Taylor will get a run in before the club's season opener against the Pies. Taylor sustained a concussion in the club's intra-club match a fortnight ago and will need to get through Wednesday's training in order to be available for selection.
