New GWS coach Adam Kingsley has reassured fans Giants young gun Finn Callaghan has intentions to remain with the club beyond 2023.
Callaghan, a product from Mordialloc-Braeside in Melbourne's south-east, is yet to extend his tenure with the Giants with his rookie deal coming to a conclusion this year.
The teenager, who was taken with Pick 3 in the 2021 National Draft, is one of six first-round selections from that count that are yet to re-sign at their respective clubs.
Fellow top-three pick Sam Darcy joins Callaghan in remaining unsigned for next season, with St Kilda's Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Essendon's Ben Hobbs, Swan Angus Sheldrick and Lion Kai Lohmann also yet to cement their futures.
Callaghan, like a host of Victorian-born Giants before him, is expected to gain some level of interest from rival clubs from his home state amid uncertainty surrounding his contract status.
But while external interest in Callaghan may arise, his senior coach isn't too concerned.
"He's out of contract, we're in negotiations at the moment as I understand, but I'm not really concerned about losing Finn,” Kingsley told SEN.
“I think Finn is the kind of guy you build a footy club around and he's incredibly loyal and certainly his intention is to stay with us at this point in time.
"...To be quite frank I'm not concerned about losing Finn."
Kingsley's comments come shortly after St Kilda revealed their recruitment plans to pursue players from the bayside area.
Callaghan, a Sandinrgahm Dragons product, would be among the potential targets that fit the Saints' recruitment mould.
The young midfielder is set to be handed greater opportunities at senior level this season as Kingsley looks to settle his squad for the start of his maiden season at the helm.
Following the departures of onballer trio Tim Taranto (Richmond), Jacob Hopper (Richmond) and Tanner Bruhn (Geelong) during the off-season, minutes in midfield will be on offer to the likes of Callaghan.
After overcoming foot surgery, the versatile midfielder will look to add to his five AFL appearances from his debut season.
GWS will host Adelaide at GIANTS Stadium on Sunday, March 19 to begin their 2023 campaign.
