GWS coach Leon Cameron has confirmed that he and the club have put off further contract talks until the conclusion of the season in the face of mounting speculation about his coaching future.
Cameron, who is in his ninth year at the helm of the Giants, made the comments to media after his side's Saturday evening win against Gold Coast.
"We had a really good meeting with the club just before the season started and we'll assess that and park it until the end of the year," Cameron said.
"I'm a nine-year coach, 10 years at the footy club, and sometimes trying to work through a contract in the hurly burly of week-in, week-out footy is pretty full-on.
"I think it's a really smart decision from the footy club. It's an honest decision.
"When you've been involved in a club for near-on 10 years you want to make the right decision. Sometimes clubs probably don't get that right, and we've seen that in the past, and they have regrets. I don't want us to have any regrets."
Cameron, who enjoyed his 100th win as coach after the 26-point victory against the Suns, has experienced a rocky start to the season. Early losses to Sydney and Richmond left the club with a 0-2 ledger prior to their win over the Suns, with matches against Fremantle and reigning premiers Melbourne to come in the next weeks.
"There will definitely be things that we look at at the end of the year, clearly we look at style of play, win-loss, that's the norm for any senior coach," Cameron said.
"I look forward to having those really good discussions at the end of the year.
"It's a mature decision from both club and coach. There is always going to be speculation, especially when you start 0-2 or you lose a game."
The Giants have featured in five finals series under Cameron's lead, including the 2019 grand final loss to Richmond and last year's semi-final loss to Geelong.
