Gold Coast defender Sean Lemmens has been handed a four-game suspension after a dangerous tackle against Box Hill's Josh Bennetts in the VFL on Saturday.

The incident was cited as careless, severe impact and high contact.

Bennetts took his free kick and 50m penalty, but was clearly not 100 per cent, leaving the field with a trainer after dribbling home a goal. He was later diagnosed with a concussion.

VFL suspensions also apply at the AFL level, meaning Lemmens is unable to be selected in either competition for the next month.

Gold Coast will challenge the ban.

Former Sydney defender and GWS VFL player Marc Sheather was also handed down a four-week ban for his rough conduct in the clash with Sandringham.

Sheather was cited for "rough conduct" against Max Heath, with the act graded as careless, severe impact and high contact.

Northern Bullants' Liam Mackie will also miss a month of football after his behaviour caught the eye of the VFL Match Review Panel.

Mackie was offered a four-week suspension for his conduct against Geelong's Marcus Herbert, graded as careless, severe impact and high contact.

Teammate John Roumeliotis was offered a three-game ban (early plea of two).

No word as to whether the clubs will appeal the suspensions.
