Gold Coast are throwing two first-round picks the way of Richmond in the hopes of acquiring premiership star Daniel Rioli, according to the Herald Sun.
This potential move has garnered much attention in 2024, given Rioli's history with Suns coach Damien Hardwick, who coached him to three premierships at Richmond.
Rioli, currently contracted with the Tigers until 2027, has been a key player for the Tigers since their drought-breaking triumph in 2017, currently averaging 19.3 disposals and 4.2 rebound 50s per game this season.
27 years old and providing a wealth of winning experience, Rioli's value is high, but an offer of two first-rounders sounds generous on the surface.
The Suns' offer will include two of the three first-round picks they currently hold; their own, the Western Bulldogs', alongside an end-of-first-round selection from North Melbourne's AFL assistance package. However, the latter pick may fall into the mid-20s, complicating negotiations.
The Tigers currently hold a draft hand of 2, 22 and 34.
Earlier this year, Rioli was spotted on the Gold Coast during Richmond's bye week, fuelling speculation of a potential move.
The Tigers face decisions on several key players out of contract at the end of 2024, including Liam Baker and Shai Bolton, who are both in the sights of their home-state rival, Fremantle.
The situation presents a significant challenge for new coach, Adam Yze, in managing the club's future as they deal with the departure of their entire premiership core, including outgoing CEO Brendon Gale.
Footy fans also await the final call of Dustin Martin, who will continue to be named in free agent speculation and ongoing rumours of a Hardwick reunion.
