The Gold Coast Suns are said to be showing interest in delisted GWS defender Jake Stein ahead of the delisted free agency window.
Stein was not offered a new deal by the Giants at the conclusion of last season, joining Jarrod Brander and Zach Sproule in also facing the axe.
The tall defender initially joined the Giants as a Category B Rookie at the end of 2016 following a career as a decathlete, where he took part in two World Championships as a junior.
Stein played 20 games in his time with GWS, including nine games this season as a fringe defensive option for the New South Wales club.
Stein's manager Robbie D'Orazio told SEN last month he was hopeful his client would gain a second chance in the AFL after leaving the Giants.
'Steiny' is a GWS backman who came as a Cat B. He was one that I was surprised got delisted, he played some good footy in the back end under Mark McVeigh," D'Orazio said..
“Hopefully we get him on a list somewhere which I'm working on at the moment."
Now, according to AFL.com.au, the Suns are expressing an interest in Stein as they look to bolster their backline for 2023.
The Suns lost a bevy of key talent this off-season, while their defensive stocks have often been an area of weakness.
Star backman Sam Collins has often been left without a key-position partner in defence, while Charlie Ballard has done much of the heavy lifting as an intercept option.
Long-serving defender Rory Thompson made his long-awaited return from injury this year for the Suns, however battled further setbacks before seeing his campaign cut short again.
Delisted free agency opens on Thursday, November 9 and will run until November 15 - including a one-day break on November 10.
