Gold Coast has made its intentions clear of looking toward East Perth young gun Reuben Ginbey in next Monday night's National Draft.

The 189cm midfielder was a standout for Western Australia in this year's NAB AFL Under-18 National Championships and for the Royals in the WAFL.

The Suns travelled to Ginbey's hometown of Dunsborough, in Perth's South-West to meet with his family in recent days.

Ginbey has the flexibility to float between midfeld and half-back with his incredible endurance placing him in the top five in the 2km time trial at the draft combine.

Gold Coast holds Pick 5 in the draft, with the club's national recruiting manager Kall Burns telling AFL Draft Night Countdown the club is looking to draft a midfielder, with Ginbey one of those in contention.

"It's a really strong midfield draft at the top end this year and we'd like to target that area." Burns said.

"There's a number of players in that area of the draft who have that real versatility where they can either go forward, back, or add some power to the midfield as well.

"We did a quick dash over the Dunsborough on Tuesday. It was just an opportunity, Reuben happened to be home from his school in Wesley in Perth, so he was home with Mum and Dad, and it was a great opportunity to go over and see him in his natural habitat.

"In terms of the drafting, the volume of the work is done, it's just an opportunity to take our welfare manager over and meet with the family and discuss what it could look like."

Other highly-touted midfielders the Suns are looking for are regional Victoria pair Bailey Humphrey and Jhye Clark.

Burns said the club has no desire to swap draft picks on the night, having only one first-round pick and Pick 45.

Following the National Draft, the Pre-Season and Rookie draft will take place on Wednesday November 30 followed by the Supplementary Selection Period from January to March next year.
