The Gold Coast Suns will unveil first-year key forward Jed Walter this weekend when they make the trip to Ballarat to face the Western Bulldogs.

Walter, who stands at 195cm and approximately 97kg, was drafted to the Suns out of the club's Academy as the third selection of last November's National Draft.

The teenager was the leading key forward in his draft class, booting 18 goals in four Talent League games while also helping lead the Allies to their maiden National Championships title.

Noted as one of the most ready-made rookies in the competition, Walter will make his AFL debut on Sunday when the Suns face the Bulldogs at Mars Stadium.

Speaking via a club announcement, Walter said his first outing in Suns colours at the top level will be a day he'll cherish for the rest of his life.

“It really is a dream come true to earn my AFL debut for my hometown club and I couldn't be more excited,” Walter said.

“A lot of hard work from many people has gone in to getting me here and I'm extremely grateful for all the support I've had. I can't wait to run out on in Ballarat on Sunday.”

Drafted out of Palm Beach Currumbin, Walter was joined by fellow Academy graduates Ethan Read, Jake Rogers and Will Graham in also being selected by the Suns in the first round of last year's draft.

The tall forward is set to work alongside the likes of Ben King and Jack Lukosius in his first game for the club, with the Suns to name their extended squad on Thursday evening.

Gold Coast face the Western Bulldogs at Mars Stadium at 1:00pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
