Sun Jamie Stanton will be forced to watch the remainder of Gold Coast's season seven campaign from the sidelines, with scans confirming she has ruptured her ACL.
Stanton left the field in the first term of Sunday's 33-point win over West Coast after suffering a knee injury, sent for scans to determine the severity.
Club physiotherapist Indianna Franke confirmed that the 26-year-old had suffered a full rupture and will be ruled out for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.
“We’ve had it confirmed with scanning that Jamie has sustained a full rupture of her ACL. That will unfortunately leave her unavailable for the rest of the season,” Franke said in a club statement.
Stanton managed all ten games for the Suns last season, her third with the club after initial stints with Brisbane and North Melbourne. Her 2021 campaign however was derailed by an ankle injury, managing just six matches.
Head of women's football at the Suns, Fiona Sessarago, said the long-term injury to their vice-captain was "devastating" but that the club would support her returning to the field.
“It’s devastating news for Jamie who has been an integral part of the club’s AFLW program since our inaugural game,” Sessarago said.
“She’s a much-loved member of this squad and we will all be supporting her throughout her rehabilitation to see her return to the field stronger than ever.”
Stanton joins Jade Pregelj (knee) and Alana Gee (back) on the injury list, with all three ruled out for the season.
