Following the recent announcement that Melbourne will host its first ever 'Ginger Pride Rally', we have put together a list of the greatest red heads to ever play AFL football.

Melbourne will host the Ginger Pride Rally on April 16th.

Justin Leppitsch

Leppitsch, the current coach of the Brisbane Lions, is a Brisbane legend and one of the best defenders of the modern era. The 40-year-old was a member of the Lions' historic three-peat side of 2001-03. Leppitsch played 183 games for the Lions and 44 games for the Brisbane Bears and was a three-time All-Australian.

Cameron Ling

The former Geelong captain had one hell of a red mop and the Cats' tagger could sure play too! Ling played 246 games for his home town club, winning three premierships in the process.

Jason Akermanis

While Aker's hair was predominantly bleached blonde during his career, make no mistake, the former Brisbane star is a ginger. Aker is a Brownlow Medalist, three-time premiership player, four-time All-Australian and two-time Brisbane best and fairest winner.

Dustin Fletcher

Fletcher is one of the most durable players to ever play the game, retiring last season after an astonishing 400 games. He was also a two-time premiership player and a two-time All-Australian.

Jarryd Roughead

Roughead will go down as one of the greats of the game when he retires. Roughy has won four flags at the Hawks, is a two-time All-Australian and a Coleman Medalist. He has a unique ability to play not only as a tall forward, but also play in a pocket and play a role as a smaller crumbing forward or even a midfielder.

Michael Voss

In a best 22 of red heads, Michael Voss would surely be the captain. The courageous leader captained the Lions for ten seasons, including during their famous three-peat between 2001 and 20013. Voss is also a Brownlow Medalist, a two-time AFLPA MVP award winner, a three-time Brisbane best and fairest winner and a five-time All-Australian.

Guy McKenna

McKenna is a two-time premiership player with the West Coast Eagles and was captain of the club and a two-time best and fairest winner. He was also captain of the Western Australian State of Origin side in 1996 and 1997.

Tim McGrath

'Bluey', as he was known, was one of the best backmen of the 1990s. McGrath played 226 games, 219 with Geelong and he played in three grand finals at the Cats (1992, 94, 95).

Gary Buckanarra

Buckanarra was part of four Hawthornย  premierships during the 1980s and played 154 games for the Hawks. He is also a member of Hawthorn's Team of the Century.

Dermot Brereton

Dermie had it all, the talent, the bright boots and the long golden locks. But don't be fooled, Brereton too is a ginger. The Hawthorn legend played 211 games and kicked 464 goals during his career, which included five day and five night premierships.

Keith Greg

This former North Melbourne champion's statistics speak for themselves. Greg won two Brownlow Medals (1973,74), a club best and fairest, a premiership and was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 1996. Greg is also a member of the AFL Team of the Century.
