GWS forward and run-with option Toby Bedford remains no certainty to face Sydney in this week's qualifying final.

Bedford has been dealing with calf soreness prior to the Giants' most recent game - a Round 24 bout with the Western Bulldogs a fortnight prior to their clash with the Swans.

The club has revealed Bedford will be given the coming days to prove his fitness and be cleared to return to Adam Kingsley's side, with Thursday looming as D-day for GWS' selection committee, with Bedford needing to pass testing at main training.

Fellow forward Jake Riccardi has been cleared to return to Kingsley's side after missing the final month of the Giant's home and away campaign with a finger injury.

Following a full week on the track, Riccardi has been given the green light to be in the selection mix for the club's first final of the year.

Meanwhile, veteran Adam Kennedy is a step closer to a return of his own, with the inaugural Giant to feature in this weekend's scrimmage hitout between fringe GWS and Sydney players.

Kennedy has been sidelined since mid-August due to a hamstring injury.

The Giants are likely to make several changes for Saturday's qualifying final, with Lachie Ash (suspension), Brent Daniels (back) and Isaac Cumming (calf) also cleared to return.

GWS will name their side for this week on Thursday at 6:20pm (AEST), with a final squad to be confirmed an hour before Saturday's 3:20pm bounce.
