GWS midfielder Ryan Angwin has recommitted at the Giants for a further two seasons, seeing the former first-round draft selection now tied to the club until the end of 2026.

Angwin has played 20 AFL games for the Giants, who drafted the Gippsland Power talent with the 18th overall pick in the 2020 AFL Draft.

The wingman made his debut in 2022 against the Western Bulldogs and unfortunately suffered an injury in his maiden match, which would be his only game at AFL level for the year.

Angwin played 15 games last year, putting forward a number of promising performances to hold his spot in Adam Kingsley's side until their finals series.

The 21-year-old has managed just four games this year, his most recent coming in Round 15 against Sydney.

The outside ball winner will have the coming two years to add to his games tally, with the Giants and Angwin agreeing to a two-term extension.

“It's fantastic to have re-signed Ryan for a further two years as he's an extremely hard worker and someone that we know can play a valuable role for us now and in the future,” GWS football boss Jason McCartney said in a club statement.

“Ryan is a talented young player with loads of potential who we've seen contribute strongly at AFL level already and we're eager to see what he can produce in the future.

“Ryan's new deal adds to a growing list of our talented young players to recently re-commit to the GIANTS and we're really excited about the future of the club.”

The re-signing of Angwin adds to a strong year of retention for GWS, who have had Lachie Ash (2027), Brent Daniels (2031), Jesse Hogan (2026), Nick Madden (2026), Sam Taylor (2032), Harvey Thomas (2026) and Nathan Wardius (2025) also recommit in 2024.

The Giants are likely to make further list calls at the end of their finals series, which will commence this Saturday with a qualifying final against Sydney at the SCG.
