GWS have announced a new two-year extension for exciting Irishman Callum Brown, who has put pen to paper on a fresh deal to see his services tied to the orange and charcoal until the end of the 2025 season.
Brown has been a shining light for the Giants across his eight games so far this season, booting seven goals in his past four games alone as a versatile asset that can play at either end of the ground for coach Adam Kingsley.
Having returned to the senior side in Round 7, Brown has now tallied 18 games at AFL level as one of the competition's most impressive Irish imports, showing off his brute strength and long-range kicking.
A product from Derry, Brown expressed his delight to have re-signed with the club, thanking GWS for the opportunity.
“I arrived here as a teenager in a new country to learn a brand new game and even though it's my fifth year, it still feels like a whirlwind adventure,” he said in a club statement.
“The Giants are my home and it's been a really exciting season so far under a new coach in Adam. Everyone is really clear on their roles and I'm just excited to be able to play my part and for the team to get some wins over the past month.
“It was a super easy decision to re-sign and I'm really excited to continue to work on my game and hopefully there's some really exciting times to come.”
Brown's re-signing comes in a historic weekend for the AFL's Irish contingent, with Geelong veteran Zach Tuohy to play in his 265th game and surpass the great Jim Stynes' games record held by an Irish-born player on Sunday.
For Brown, 22, he's managed to place himself on a path that could see his name rank among his nation's best AFL players by the end of his career.
“Callum has always had high talent from an early age but we can't underestimate the challenge he and other Irish players have adapting to Aussie Rules football,” GWS football boss Jason McCartney said.
“He's shown glimpses of his excitement and development across the past few seasons and so this year he's putting together a really consistent season at AFL level which is exciting to see.
“He's got huge upside and is playing a really important role in the team across our forward line. It's exciting to be able to offer him a two-year extension and know he'll be kicking impressive goals in the orange and charcoal for years to come.”
Brown will be part of the Giants' side that faces Hawthorn at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 4:35pm.
