GWS midfielder Stephen Coniglio has been subbed out of Saturday's semi-final due to a cheekbone injury.

The injury concern came from a crunching marking contest where Coniglio was placed between teammate Aaron Cadman and Lions opponent Harris Andrews as the trio competed for an aerial ball.

Play was paused for some time as Coniglio, who had a puffed-up left eye, was in the hands of medical staff.

The Giants veteran gained medical assistance for several minutes on the ENGIE Stadium surface before eventually rising to his feet and being helped from the ground.

The Giants made their sub change at quarter time, with Coniglio replaced in the match by Xavier O'Halloran.

The injury for Coniglio comes amid an injury-interrupted campaign for the former Giants skipper, who has played just the 15 games in 2024 due to a troublesome shoulder injury.

The Giants will await the result of Saturday's semi-final before learning the full extent of Coniglio's injury and whether he could miss a preliminary final next weekend against Geelong should GWS proceed.
