Giants defender Connor Idun has recently become one of the longest contracted players in the competition, penning a six-year extension to remain at the club.

Idun has emerged as one of the AFL's most versatile defenders, playing on smalls and talls in a bid to bring the expansion club its maiden premiership.

The 24-year-old has become a success story after being taken with Pick 61 in the 2018 National Draft, and featuring three times in his first two seasons.

Since, Idun has rarely put a foot wrong, including being deemed as a leader of the club.

His new deal sees him join fellow defender Sam Taylor as contracted until the end of 2032.

Giants EGM of Football Jason McCartney was stoked that the club continues to lock away its formiddable youngsters.

"It's really exciting to have Connor make such a long-term commitment to the club," McCartney said.

"He's an exceptional young footballer and an exceptional young leader who has continued to get better every year and at just 24 years old it's exciting that his best is well and truly still to come.

Why are some AFL players 'overrated' while others are 'underrated'?

"Connor has proven himself to be one of our most reliable and consistent players and he really provides our backline with great flexibility. After coming off a career-best year we're really excited about what he can produce not only this year but well into the future.

"We've built a great club that we know our players love and Connor's commitment to the club alongside Finn Callaghan's recent re-signing is further testament to the amazing culture that we have at the Giants."

Idun's re-signing comes shortly after teammate and midfielder Finn Callaghan denied extreme interest from St Kilda, reportedly rejecting a monster 10-year deal worth around $17 million.

The Giants will face Carlton on Friday as a dress rehearsal before taking on Collingwood in Opening Round at ENGIE Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
