GWS will hand second-year midfield-forward Darcy Jones his AFL debut on Anzac Day when the Giants welcome Brisbane to Manuka Oval.
Jones' inclusion comes as the Giants lose Toby Greene through suspension, while fellow forward Brent Daniels is in some doubt due to a knee knock.
The Western Australian was a first-round draft selection for the New South Wales club in 2022, with Jones' first season in the orange and charcoal brought to an unfortunate and abrupt end due to an ACL injury.
Following his extensive rehabilitation process, Jones turned heads at pre-season training to strengthen his selection case heading into the 2024 season.
The club confirmed Jones' selection for Round 7 on Wednesday, with the decision coming as some surprise to the 20-year-old.
"Are you serious…you are kidding," Jones' said after being told of his debut by teammate Sam Taylor on Tuesday.
“My heart is pounding…this is beyond crazy. I can't wait to tell everyone.
“It's a lifelong dream and I'm still shaking. I can't believe it. it's going to be crazy, and I can't wait.
“There's been a few setbacks but it's probably been a blessing in disguise because it makes you work that much harder and you don't take it for granted."
Jones is rated for his athleticism, agility and decision-making as a wing or half-forward option.
He becomes the second debutant for GWS this year following Harvey Thomas' Opening Round appearance.
The Giants will name their 23-man squad for Round 7 on Wednesday evening at 6:20pm (AEST) before finalising their squad an hour out from the 7:35pm bounce in Canberra on Thursday.
