GWS midfielder Tom Green is set to miss the start of the 2025 season after suffering a calf strain at training.

The injury will place the 24-year-old out of action for up to six weeks, with Green to be unavailable for the Giants' Opening Round clash against Collingwood at the very least.

A month on the sidelines would see Green miss a Round 1 bout against Melbourne, with a Round 2 bye set to help his return timeframe.

The Giants having following meetings with Hawthorn and West Coast before a Gather Round clash with St Kilda in mid-April.

Green played all 25 games for the Giants last year, with an ankle concern unable to keep the inside onballer out of action.

He would poll 27 Brownlow votes in 2024 to sit fifth overall in the competition, capping off a career-best year with GWS.

Green's setback comes as the Giants prepare to start the new season without Josh Fahey, Jake RiccardiJoe FontiHarvey Thomas and Toby McMullin through suspensions relating to the club's controversial post-season celebrations.

All five players will miss the first two games of the year, while Fahey's suspension was set at four matches.

Fahey is also dealing with a foot injury and faces an unclear timeline, while Callum Brown (hamstring) and Ryan Angwin (ankle) will also miss the start of the season.

Defender Sam Taylor has entered concussion protocols and will miss the Giants' upcoming pre-season clash against Sydney, while Stephen Coniglio won't face the Swans either as he continues to recover from off-season shoulder surgery.

The pair are expected to be available in time for Opening Round when GWS host Collingwood at Engie Stadium and will also be in the mix for the club's Community Series match against Carlton next week.
