Sydney's key position stocks look to have taken another hit after forward-ruck utility Joel Amartey suffered a hamstring injury in Friday night's win over Richmond.
Already without key pillars Lance Franklin (knee), Paddy McCartin (concussion), Tom McCartin (concussion), Sam Reid (hamstring) and Tom Hickey (calf) for their Round 5 bout with the Tigers, Sydney were another tall down in the opening half of their contest at Adelaide Oval.
Scenes from the second quarter showed Amartey sprinting across the field as play broke loose, with the 23-year-old soon left gripping his thigh and forced into a limp.
Amartey immediately ventured toward the interchange bench under some duress and still holding his hamstring, with a suspected strain adding to a frustrating run of injuries for John Longmire's side.
The Swans acted quickly to make their tactical substitute, handing defender Will Gould his AFL debut as Amartey was left to sit out the remainder of the match with two goals to his name following a hot start to the game.
Now expected to miss the coming rounds due to the ailment, Longmire said the injuries to his key-position players were frustratingly compounded further.
"We've been hit pretty hard this week with talls, there's something wrong with the height up in Sydney at the moment because we've been smacked around by it," Longmire said post-game.
"And then to lose Joel was disappointing, particularly the way he started, and we had to throw the team around and I thought we went about it really well.
"A really young team challenged really hard and [to] respond like that was just fantastic."
The Swans were required to monitor a neck issue sustained by star forward Isaac Heeney during the match, with the All-Australian initially shaking off the concern after gaining some attention from medical staff mid-match.
According to AFL Media reporter Cal Twomey, Heeney underwent scans on the issue after the win, with the star Swan cleared of significant damage but seen as no certainty to play next week against the Cats.
"Isaac Heeney did go for scans last night on his neck," Twomey told SEN on Saturday.
"He has been cleared of major damage there, but (Heeney is) sore out of last night. He's now a watch for next week.
"It adds to a long list of injuries doesn't it?"
Sydney could welcome the returns of Franklin, Hickey and the McCartin brothers as early as next week, however Longmire stressed there were no certainties for those inclusions to face Geelong next Saturday.
The Swans will head to GMHBA Stadium in their clash with the Cats, looking for their fourth win of the season.
