Deal: Lincoln McCarthy, Picks 54 and 57 to Brisbane in exchange for Picks 42 and 60 to Geelong
The Lions secured McCarthy in the first deal of the trade period after the 24-year-old requested a move to Brisbane.
McCarthy is a lively small forward taken by Geelong as the 66th in the 2011 National Draft, however could only muster 29 games for the Cats in his seven seasons at the Cattery. His best season saw him play 19 games in 2016 and kicking 19 goals as the Cats made it to the preliminary final.
Injuries have derailed McCarthy's young career, as he only played two senior games this season, however more crucially McCarthy's signature could help the Lions land Lachie Neale.
Neale and McCarthy sat next to each other as they were drafted in 2011 and grew up together in South Australia.
For the Cats, the move sees them move up the draft and makes 42 their second pick in the draft, the move comes with little risk and plenty of opportunity for reward.
Brisbane draft picks: 4, 22, 54, 57, 78
Geelong draft picks: 11, 42, 49, 58, 60, 85
Grade: B
Both sides would be happy with what they got, it isn't a particularly flashy deal and won't be remembered for years to come but McCarthy is a decent player who can help the growing Lions while the Cats need to inject youth into their team.
