Hawthorn youngsters Changkuoth Jiath and Jack Scrimshaw have both been hit with injury blows following their loss to Fremantle at UTAS Stadium on the weekend.

Jiath suffered a PCL injury to his knee whilst Scrimshaw went down with a concussion which saw both players finish the game on the bench.

Hawthorn Physical Performance Manager, Luke Boyd, informed the club website on the defensive duo's current status.

"As we saw on the weekend, Jack was subbed out of the game in the second quarter after receiving a knock to the head," Boyd said.

"The concussion wasn't definitive at the time, it was quite difficult to assess, but obviously with anything around the head, we want to exercise caution so he was subbed out of the game."

"In follow-up tests on Monday, it has been confirmed that it was a concussion - he had some symptoms on Monday - which will mean Jack will now enter concussion protocols."

"On a positive note though, Jack was able to start jogging today (Tuesday)."

Although Scrimshaw will likely only miss the week due to concussion protocols, Jiath's season is now over according to Boyd.

"Unfortunately CJ has sustained a PCL injury to that knee," Boyd explained.

"Generally with a PCL injury, we don't get much change in six-to-eight weeks, even for the lower grade ones so that will mean he will not be available to play for the remainder of the season."

"On a positive note, we don't anticipate this being a long-term issue for CJ and we think he will recover quite well from the injury."

The news doesn't get much better for the Brisbane Lions with key defender Marcus Adams sidelined for at least a month with a foot injury.

Adams spent the whole 2020 season on the sidelines with a foot injury and has just suffered another stress reaction in his foot during the Lions' 32 point defeat to St. Kilda at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

The news comes only days after Lions key forward Eric Hipwood was ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured ACL which puts a dint in the Lions' premiership aspirations.

The 28-year old has enjoyed a strong season to date, pairing well with All-Australian defender Harris Andrews, limiting star key forwards such as Tom Hawkins to only one goal in their matchup in round 15.

The Lions will travel to Melbourne to take on the Tigers at the MCG on Friday night, as they look to keep their top four hopes alive.
