Hawthorn midfielder James Worpel has signed a fresh contract extension with the Hawks, putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal.
The news means Worpel's future is tied to the Hawks until at least the end of the 2025 season.
'Worpedo's new contract comes after the contested midfielder played his 100th game in Hawthorn's scalp of the Western Bulldogs last Saturday at UTAS Stadium.
Hawthorn recruiting boss Mark McKenzie expressed his delight at being able to retain Worpel's services for a further pair of seasons.
"James has been a great servant of our club, and we're thrilled that he is eager to continue his journey here at Hawthorn," McKenzie said in a Monday evening club statement.
"A former best and fairest, it's been exciting to see him remain injury-free this season and take his game to another level.
"James' talent and leadership has been obvious since being drafted to the Hawks, he plays a huge role in our side and will form a critical part of our endeavour to future success."
Previously unsigned to this late point in the season, some anticipated Worpel could be on his way out of Waverley at the year's end. Now re-signed, the Hawks' list management committee will look to the club's remaining out-of-contract commodities.
Forward Chad Wingard, who on Monday learned of his unfortunate Achilles tendon rupture, remains unsigned at Hawthorn beyond this season. The same goes for key forward Jacob Koschitzke, as well as livewire goalsneak Tyler Brockman.
Worpel and the Hawks prepare for a Round 23 meeting with Melbourne at the MCG this Sunday afternoon.
